Whereas: Under current law in Ohio, the legal burden is mistakenly on the defendant to prove they were entitled to a claim of self-defense, instead of the burden being on the prosecutor to prove that the defendant wasn’t entitled to claim self-defense; and
Whereas: Under current law in Ohio, gun owners can be sued and prosecuted by criminals simply for defending themselves and their loved ones against a criminal attack; and
Whereas: Under current law in Ohio, even if you survive a violent attack on your life you have no civil protections, which oftentimes results in you having to spend tens of thousands of dollars to defend yourself all over again in the courtroom; and
Whereas: A Stand-Your-Ground law would simply allow law-abiding gun owners in Ohio the right to defend themselves and their loved ones against criminal invasion without facing prosecution; and
Therefore: On behalf of law-abiding gun owners all across the state of Ohio, I urge you to cosponsor and seek record, roll call votes on the Ohio Stand-Your-Ground Bill, with no weakening amendments.
